How old are you?
A very young 53
How long have been djing?
I've been actively club djing 36 years - non stop.
What got you into djing?
There was two reasons, my first musical love was Northern Soul and Motown, I was a regular at Wigan Casino. Secondly I was an avid listener to a the BBC London radio station which was presented by the legendary Robbie Vincent when I was in my mid teens. His show was on every Saturday afternoon and I used to listen live and record it onto cassette tape and repeatedly play it until the next show, he was my inspiration, the music genre in those days was soul, jazz and funk - his catch phrase was "if it moves - funk it".
How long have you been playing for Venus?
I'm a newcomer!
Who would you aspire to dj with?
There have been many a dj who has inspired me over the years, I used to run Angels in Burnley and we had them all on there over the years, Sasha, Cox, Oakenfold, Tongy, Boy George, the list was endless but in recent years three guys get my vote - Joe T Vanelli, Roger Sanchez and David Penn.
Who is your favourite dj and why?
Again because of my age I would like to split this. 15 years ago it was local legend Graeme Park, the man is a genius, there are a lot of superb beat matching jocks out there but not too many who can also chord match, he was and still is flawless.
A couple of summers ago when I was resident at Pacha in Ibiza I saw Joe T Vanelli, he played 3 hours and not only did he captivate me, he had the whole of the club in the palm of his hand, his sound was unique and educational but most importantly he was entertaining, there are very few dj's that can do that.
What advice would you give an aspiring dj?
There are so many aspiring dj's everywhere today and this is always the most difficult question to answer for me because when I started there was only a handful of specialist dj's in the UK but I usually say that the best jocks are born with real talent but no matter how good you are if you forget why and who you are playing to, you don't deserve centre stage. Also a great dj instinctively knows his next tune.
What does 2011 have in store for you?
Like every year that I have been lucky enough to be in my position - to believe again that music will always be a celebration of my soul and to those that I play for.
